Catherine Leroi, General Manager of the PERLThe PERL is internationally renowned for its scientific expertise in three crucial areas for the Total group: management of the environmental impacts of its industrial activities, gas separation – including CO2 capture – and the physical-chemistry of interactions between hydrocarbons, water and solids.

The platform has three complementary sites, giving it the facilities required to perform research work from the laboratory right up to large-scale testing:

  • Its laboratories benefit from the innovative momentum of the Lacq basin and the proximity of the community of researchers belonging to the research entities of neighboring industrial groups and start-ups.
  • The Pilot Rivers give it access to a test site that is representative of the Gave de Pau ecosystem, one of the tributaries of the Adour, a river of the Aquitaine basin.
  • The Lacq Platform for Pilots offers a vast space where large-scale experiments involving substantial volumes of dangerous fluids and gases can be carried out in complete safety on a Seveso-3 industrial site.

The PERL leverages its multi-scale resources and cross-disciplinary know-how on behalf of numerous R&D programs targeting innovations for subsurface and surface applications, making it the spearhead of the Group in the search for innovative solutions to fight climate change and protect the environment.
