Shared values

The relationship between Total and rugby is a strong and loyal one. It is based on shared values: mutual respect, solidarity, fair-play, a taste for performance, and more. In supporting rugby, Total proves its attachment to this popular sport that embodies the spirit of South West France.

Played here from a very early age, rugby runs through the generations, forges people’s feeling of territorial belonging and gives them a sense of pride. In Pau, the Section Paloise Béarn Pyrénées is an emblematic club; it contributes to the vitality of the Béarn region and flies the regional flag at a national level. Its national reach and the Group’s strong foothold in the region have brought the professional rugby club and Total together, and forged close ties.

Total, major partner of the Section

For the past 30 years, Total is proud to have been a stalwart partner of the Section, the flagship rugby club of the Béarn region created in 1902, now playing among the elite teams of the Top 14 national rugby league. Total has fully understood that rugby is the DNA of South West France, and the Section, the backbone of the Béarn!

In addition to the population's enthusiasm for the sport, rugby is also a powerful economic lever for the region. Every match at the Hameau stadium in Pau is a celebration that attracts thousands of supporters, generates activities, and galvanizes the local amateur clubs.

Since 1986, we have backed the bearnese club in all the stages of its development, through the good times and the bad, stepping up our support when the team made it back into the Top 14 after winning the Pro D2 French Championship in 2015. The Section has an historical and choice position in the sponsoring of the Total group in France.

The Section’s record

The Section has been a stronghold of French rugby for many years, and won the French Championship three times in 1928, 1946 and 1964. On the international scene, it took victory in the European Challenge in 2000.

In the 1990s, the Club turned professional and continued to shine, winning its way through to the semi-finals of the French Championship and the European Cup in 1998. As from 2010, the Section began playing in National League 2 and worked its way back to its best level, again with Total’s support. The team made it back into the elite French Top 14 rugby league after losing two finals and winning the title of Pro D2 French Champion in 2015.

The Club today

In the Top 14, the Section is making progress and preparing its future with Total’s support. Recently, the Bearnese rugby club made it through to the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup in 2018. It has an increasing number of supporters, particularly since the 2017-2018 season when the Hameau stadium in Pau was fitted out with new facilities to welcome even more fans. The activities that Total proposes inside the stadium, such as the immersive virtual reality booth, offer visitors an unforgettable experience.

Total is the sponsor of the Section training center, certified by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Rugby League. Giving young people the opportunity to thrive in a stimulating environment from an athletic, professional, and personal point of view, is an important challenge for the Group. What is the objective? To enable each and every one of them to express their potential, as young people are the lifeblood of our regions and key to making sure they continue to thrive.
